Purdue Agronomy Centennial

Celebration Fund

Dear Friend,

These are historic times on the campus of your Purdue University!  During the past seven years we have seen tremendous growth and countless changes on the campus.  Some of these changes include:

  • The completion of the largest fund-raising campaign in Purdue’s history, with the total exceeding $1.7 billion.
  • Purdue’s tenth president, Dr. Martin Jischke, who has led this university in its quest for preeminence, will retire this summer and in mid July we welcome the leadership of Dr. France Córdova - the first female to lead the university.

The Department of Agronomy has played a key role in the history of Purdue and Purdue Agriculture for the past 100 years.  Many critical advances in agricultural research and education have been developed by this department, and have contributed greatly to enhanced agricultural production and improved natural resources throughout the world.

Recent notable accomplishments in agronomy include:

  • Largest number of graduate students of any department on campus to receive university-wide recognition for outstanding teaching in the classroom.
  • The construction of the $5.1 million Beck Agricultural Center at the Agronomy Center for Research and Education (ACRE),
  • The hiring of 17 new faculty since 2001.
  • Creation of the Fred L. Patterson Endowed Chair in Translational Genetics, the first departmental endowed chair partially, supported through a generous gift from the Lilly Foundation.

As the date for our Centennial Celebration draws closer I want to make you aware of a way in which you can be a part of the future of Purdue Agronomy.  We have put in place a Centennial Fund for gifts to the department in recognition of this momentous occasion.

The Centennial Fund will be used by the department head for support of teaching and research efforts that include graduate assistantships, undergraduate student research, travel for faculty and students to participate in professional meetings, support for development of and participation in study abroad courses, and assistance for students with financial burdens.,

Your Centennial Fund donation of $100 or more will go a long way in helping us meet future needs of your Agronomy department while recognizing past achievements and accomplishments.  Please take time today to make your gift to this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  You will receive special recognition for your contributions to this fund at our Centennial Gala Celebration this fall.

Thank you for your generous support, and be sure to join us on November 16 and 17, 2007 for the Centennial Celebration event.  We have a wonderful weekend of activities planned and we don’t want you to miss it.

Yours for Purdue Agronomy,

Dr. Craig Beyrouty
Department Head

PS: Your gift of $100 or more will mean a great deal to the next generation of Boilermaker agronomists.  Please make your gift today!
