Soil Testing…..getting Back to Basics

This interactive session will focus on helping CCA’s prepare a “Back to Basics” checklist to insure good soil samples are collected so solid data can be developed into agronomically sound, profitable fertilizer and lime recommendations that are environmentally safe. Actual case studies will be the focus for this training.

Ron lives in Tampa, Florida and is currently Research and Development Manager of New Products for The Mosaic Company. Previously, he served Cargill Crop Nutrition as Research and Development Manager from February, 2000-October, 2004. Prior to that he was Director of Ag Relations for IMC AgriBusiness from 1996-1999. From 1974 to 1996 Ron owned Top-Soil Testing Service, an independent agronomic consulting company based in Illinois. In 1991 Ron was one of the first consultants in the country to use GPS/GIS tools to assist his clients in managing their Precision Ag databases. Top-Soil Testing Service started using 2.5 acre grid soil sampling in 1974 and sampled over 1.5 million acres using that technique. Ron ’s solid base in and understanding of the fertilizer industry comes from a broad range of experiences including: teaching for 10 years at the high school and college levels, being an independent consultant/business owner, and working with product development and marketing programs. Ron has a BS. double major in Soil Science and Agriculture Education from the University of Illinois in Urbana/Champaign, IL and a Masters Degree in Environmental Science from Governor’s State University in University Park, IL.
