Chicory (Cichorium intybus): An introduced perennial belonging to the family asteraceae. Basal rosette of leaves arise from a long fleshy taproot. Rigid smooth stems have a milky juice and are resistant to mowing. Leaves on stems are alternate, clasping and hairy. Blue blossoms consisting of ray flowers are formed at end of stems and stem leaf axils. Found on sites that have low fertility and infrequent mowing.
