Their generous contribution of time, talent and financial resources has been a cornerstone for the department of Agronomy's development and tradition of excellence. Farm Family of the Year

The Farm Family of the Year award is presented by Beck's Hybrids, the office of the Commissioner of Agriculture and Indiana AgriNews.

The souvenirs that accompany this award include:

  • a plaque
  • a yard sign
  • a shopping spree
  • a vacation package

In 2001, the Department of Agronomy began to recognize the Farm Family of the Year by inviting them to the Department to give a presentation of why they were given this honor. The visit to Purdue includes a meeting with the Dean of Agriculture, lunch with faculty and students, followed by seminar/reception. Representatives from Beck's, AgriNews and Commissioners office also attend.

Farm Families recognized by the Department of Agronomy.

  • 2004 - Johnson Farm Family - The farm operation involves pullet, turkey, egg, and hog production. They also farm about 2,500 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat and milo.
  • 2003 - Schlatters Farm Family - honored for family farm operation of 2600 acres of corn, soybean and wheat with 22,0000 pigs.
  • 2002 - Ambriole Farm Family - honored for converting hog farm into a cultured night crawler operation
  • 2001 - Stinson Farm Family - honored for their work on the farm and in their community.
