Advisory Council

Mission of the Purdue Agronomy Advisory Council

The Advisory Council advises the department in its efforts to discover new information through research, to educate graduate and undergraduate students in the Agronomic and Environmental Sciences, and to disseminate information to our broad based clientele through Extension outreach programs.

Goals and Tasks

• To provide feedback about the effectiveness of our current programs and the direction of future programs.
• To keep the department up-to-date on current and future needs of employers and changes in the industry.
• To identify employment and internship opportunities for our undergraduate and graduate students
• To promote the Agronomy Department in industry, society, and legislature.
• To develop strategies to increase financial support of departmental programs through gifts, contracts, and grants.

Membership

Membership is by invitation from the Dean of the School of Agriculture. Nominations are made through the Head of the Department of Agronomy to the Dean. Membership is usually for a three-year term and is staggered so that approximately one-third of the members rotate off the Council each year. The first year of the formation of the Council, terms will be 2, 3, and 4 years to initiate the rotation.

The Council will consist of 12 to 20 members representing alums, friends, supporters having a special interest in Purdue Agronomy. All members will be reviewed annually by the Head and a decision will be made regarding continued participation.

Organization

The Head of the Department of Agronomy will serve as chair of the Council. A secretary in the Department will record the minutes of the meetings.

Participation

The Council will meet twice each year, once in the fall and once in the spring. Council members are expected to attend each meeting and to notify the Head if a conflict arises. The Council does not determine academic or departmental policy but advises the department on matters in which counsel has been sought.
