Visible Germination Events in Corn

The three visible indicators of successful germination in corn are the appearances of the 1) radicle root, 2) plumule and 3) lateral seminal roots. These images illustrate these events for several kernels of corn at three or four days after planting with warm soil temperatures.

Same as Image 4, except with seed coat removed to reveal plumule and lateral seminal roots.
