These thoughts on Establishing a Web Presence
are part of a larger discussion on "Weaving Your Way on the Web
", presented as a PUCESA Professional Improvement Seminar, 5 December
1995, on the campus of Purdue University
.
The Power of the Internet and the World Wide Web
Accessible 24
hours a day.
- Great for me as the developer of information pieces.
- Great for my clientele as end-users of the information I develop.
Allows delivery of
near-real time information.
- Email has allowed this in recent years, also.
- WWW takes it a step further by expanding the potential end-user audience.
Allows the use of
graphics, audio, and video.
- Combining graphic images with text is an advantage over simple Email.
Allows
connectivity to archived information.
- The end-user can browse 'back issues' of information.
- The developer can create hyperlinks to previously published information for
clarification.
Allows
connectivity to others' information.
- Potentially, the most important advantage of the WWW!
