Establishing a Web
Presence, page 6
Has It Been Worth It? YES!

These thoughts on Establishing a Web Presence
are part of a larger discussion on "Weaving Your Way on the Web
", presented as a PUCESA Professional Improvement Seminar, 5 December
1995, on the campus of Purdue University
.
Challenge of
Learning Something
.
- The challenge of learning something new is rewarding in and of itself. It
is too easy to remain in the ruts of traditional communication methods.
Trickle of
Responses From The Web.
- Alone in the wilderness.
- At first, I received little response from end-users on the Web.
- The trickle has begun.
- This past spring and summer, though, I began to receive email messages from
various types of end-users. All were very complimentary and encouraging.
Responses have been received from...
- Colleagues at other institutions (U.S. and other countries)
- Agronomists within agri-industry
- County Extension educators
- Farmers
- Dean Lechtenberg
(particularly important to my comfort level!).
Prospect For The
Future.
- My personal opinion is that the World Wide Web will provide tremendous
opportunities to reach out to our Extension clientele in ways we have never
before imagined.
- The challenge is also great in that our clientele will come to EXPECT and
DEMAND timely information. The quality of the information made available on the
Web will also be expected to be dependable and useable.
