Preferred moisture content at packaging is dependent upon intended use and method of storage. Small square bales can be successfully packaged without incidence of mold at a slightly higher moisture content than large round bales or large rectangular bales.

It is critical that moisture content be monitored if top quality hay or silage is to be fed.
