Using SNMP as a GIS front-end for WinMax
Introduction
Spatial Nutrient Management Planner (SNMP)
is an ArcView-based program developed at the University of Missouri
that can be used as a "front-end" for Purdue University's
WinMax and
Manure Management Planner (MMP).
With SNMP you can lay out an operation's fields and buffer zones
spatially and let its GIS automatically determine the following:
- Field size
- Buffer zone acres
- Spreadable acres for each field (total acres less any buffer areas within field)
- Distance from manure source
- Soil types
You can then import much of this data into WinMax and complete your
recordkeeping. Tip: Import the SNMP operation's fields.dbf
file into WinMax.
SNMP can also generate a variety of color maps of the operation.
For more information on SNMP, go to the
SNMP home page.
If you already have SNMP installed and are ready to use it with WinMax,
be sure to review SNMP's
requirements
(at MMP's site) and the
SNMP tips
for MMP (most apply to WinMax as well).
