Getting the ArcView 3.2a or 3.3 Demo Installed Properly
Important! A bug in the ArcView Demo installer requires an extra step to "register" the ArcView project file extension (.apr) with ArcView. This step is required to use the ArcView Demo with SNMP. (Note that this step is not required with the full version of ArcView, only the ArcView 3.2a or 3.3 Demo.)
The following instructions are for Windows 2000 and Windows XP only:
- In My Computer or Windows Explorer, choose Tools | Folder Options.
- On the File Types panel, click New and enter APR in the File Extension box, then click OK.
- Make sure APR is selected in the list, then click Change.
- In the Open With dialog, click Other and navigate to C:\ESRI\avdemo\arcview\bin32, then double-click arcview.exe. Be sure to double-click the ArcView "Application". Don't double-click the ArcView shortcut!
- Back in the Open With dialog, click OK, then click Close to close the Folder Options dialog.
The following instructions are for Windows 98 and Windows NT only:
- In My Computer or Windows Explorer, choose View | Options.
- On the File Types panel, click New Type.
- In the Add New File Type dialog, enter ArcView Project in the Description of type box.
- Enter APR in the Associated extension box.
- Click New.
- In the New Action dialog, enter Open in the Action box.
- Enter C:\ESRI\avdemo\arcview\bin32\arcview.exe in the Application used to perform action box.
- Click OK, then click Close to exit the other dialogs.
For other versions of Windows, consult the Windows help or your system administrator.
Important! If you plan to install the full version of ArcView,
be sure you uninstall the ArcView Demo and remove the .apr association
created above before you install the full version of ArcView.
To uninstall the ArcView Demo, open Add/Remove Programs on the Windows
Control Panel, select the ArcView Demo, and click Add/Change
(or Add/Remove with early versions of Windows).
To remove the .apr association, select it on the File Types panel and
click Delete (or Remove with early versions of Windows).
