Soil layer files for Indiana counties

Introduction

Soil layer files in zipped format are available for all SSURGO-certified counties in Indiana. These files can be downloaded and used with the University of Missouri's Spatial Nutrient Management Planner (SNMP) GIS program.

Important! Do NOT attempt to download these large files over a 28K or 56K phone line modem. Only download these files if you are connected to the Internet via a cable modem or some other high-speed connection.

Instructions

Click on the appropriate county's link and specify where you want the zipped file to be saved.

When done downloading, upzip the soil layer files into SNMP's SOILS folder (by default, this folder is C:\SNMP_IN\SOILS) using WinZip or some other unzip utility.

Each zipped file contains four files. These files are named using "in" followed by the county's 3-digit FIPS code. You can rename these files if you wish. For example, you could rename the in157 files to Tippecanoe_IN157. Just be sure to rename all four files to the same name and do not change the files' extensions. Also, be sure to rename the soil layer files before using them in SNMP.
