John G. Graveel is a Professor of Environmental Soil Science in the Department of Agronomy and is Director of the Natural Resources and Environmental Science (NRES) Program at Purdue University. After attending St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas he completed his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at Purdue University. His background is in soil microbiology/biochemistry and his research is in two areas, toxicant complexation by soil organic matter and soil management. Dr. Graveel has extensive teaching responsibilities that include courses in soil science, soil ecology, environmental contamination, and the sophomore and senior level NRES seminars.

Professor Graveel served as Editor of the Journal of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Education, Chair of the American Society of Agronomy, Div. A-1; Resident Education, and President of the Tennessee Chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta. In 1991, Dr. Graveel was awarded the University of Tennessee's highest award for teaching. At Purdue University, he has received recognition for Outstanding Counseling and Teaching in the College of Agriculture and received the University-wide Charles B. Murphy Outstanding Teacher and the Teaching for Tomorrow Awards. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy and recipient of the Agronomic Resident Education Award and the Soil Science Society of America Education Award. Dr. Graveel is a native Hoosier growing up in Mishawaka, Indiana. He and his wife (Sheila) have three children.

Dr. Barker has been with the Natural Resources and Environmental Science Program for more than ten years.  Her Ph.D. is in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Career Development. She received the Distinguished Master Student Award from Purdue's College of Education and earned a B. A. with Distinction from the College of Liberal Arts.  Dr. Barker teaches NRES 280: Hazardous Waste Handling, NRES 380 Hazardous Waste Certificate Renewal and the departmental section of AG 101, Introduction to the College of Agriculture and Purdue University.  She is involved with student advising, educational outreach, student recruitment, job search and placement, and business, industry, and school liaison activities. She has written a book chapter and has numerous international and national publications in the area of career development and cross-cultural instructional methodologies.  Additionally, she is a National Certified Counselor and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.  She was awarded the National Board of Certified Counselors' Outstanding Merit Award in 2004.

Dr. Barker has served as an advisor for the Environmental Science Club -- the option club for NRES students--and on the board of directors for the Purdue Academic Advising Association.  She has also served as a member of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce Environmental Committee and the College of Agriculture's Curriculum and Student Relations Committee and Diversity Roadmapping Team.   She is active in Comenzando Bien, a community health program for hispanic wormen.
