TITLE: EARTH OBSERVATION/REMOTE SENSING

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will conduct research that uses the spatial relationships of viewing the Earth to solve problems related to site-specific agriculture, land cover, urbanization, and land degradation; develop an outreach program in earth observations; and teach related undergraduate and graduate classes. The candidate will assume the role of Director of the Laboratory for Applications of Remote Sensing (http://www.lars.purdue.edu/), an interdisciplinary virtual laboratory representing over 35 faculty from 10 departments. This position is part of a larger commitment by Purdue to hire several positions in spatial systems research The candidate must have an excellent record in remote sensing, geographic information systems and spatial statistics. We are particularly interested in individuals whose research couples image analysis with agricultural and environmental applications and can work in an interdisciplinary environment and conduct projects that span laboratory, field, regional, and global scales. As a faculty member in the Department of Agronomy, responsibilities will include participation in disciplinary degree programs, teaching a graduate course in remote sensing, and teaching an undergraduate course in earth observation and related topics. Participation is expected in Purdue’s joint, multidisciplinary M.S. degree program in Earth Observation with partner institution, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium). Interest and/or experience in international dimensions of the discipline is desirable.

The successful candidate is expected to establish a creative, extramurally funded program in Earth Observation Systems. Supervision of graduate students and counseling of undergraduates also is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A Ph.D. degree in Agronomy, Soil & Water Science, Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Geosciences or related fields with an emphasis in Earth Observation is required. Excellent oral and demonstrated written communication skills are essential. Teaching and research is expected.

SALARY:
