Purdue Reception in Anaheim
Mark your calendars for Friday, February 6, 1998. If you are planning to attend the GCSAA Conference and Show in Anaheim, CA then make time to stop by the Purdue reception. The reception will be at the Anaheim Hilton and Towers from 6:00 to 7:30 PM on February 6. Stop by and visit with friends and alumni, share memories, and enjoy yourself.

Turfgrass Research and Diagnostic Center
With one full year under our belt the new Turfgrass Research and Diagnostic Center has had several things happen. We installed 144 sprinklers on a 1 acre plot to facilitate the use of a Bio-Ject system to test biological control of diseases on fairway turf along with establishment studies. We also built a one acre USGA green. This particular project took more than two months to complete. To help us with this project we had volunteers from the Indiana Golf Course Superintendents Association, the Purdue Student Chapter of GCSAA, and Tim Gibb and his staff. Although we did not get the green seeded it is ready to final grade and seed first thing this spring. We also established seven other 1 acre plots, and have three more ready to be seeded. At this time we have 4 individual research studies started with many others to begin in the spring of 1998.
We also had many meetings with architects concerning the education and maintenance building we are planning to build. Finally, we think we have things together now and the request for bids on this building should go out near the end of January with construction hopefully to start in early April.
The 1998 Turf Field Day will be at the new Turfgrass Research and Diagnostic Center on Cherry Lane. So mark your calendars for Tuesday, July 28 and be part of the beginning of a new era for the Turf Program at Purdue.
Purdue Student Chapter of GCSAA Job Fair
The newly formed Purdue Student Chapter of GCSAA is hosting its inaugural job fair for Purdue turf students on January 28. This fair will allow students to seek out and make the initial contact for quality internship opportunities for the summer. It is not intended that the job fair will provide time for an in-depth interview but will provide an opportunity for the initial contact between students and potential employers. If you have internship opportunities and/or would like to participate, please contact Bev Bratton at 765-494-8039.
