Carpetweed (Mollugo verticillata): A native annual belonging to the family molluginaceae. Prostrate growth habit. Stems with many branches shooting off is all directions form a circular mat. This mat is supported by a tap root. Tongue shaped leaves (5 or 6) are arranged around each joint of the stems. Two to five white flowers arise from the leaf axils. Usually more a problem on newly seeded sites than in established turf.
