Agronomic Business & Marketing

As the agricultural service industry becomes more technical, service representatives for agribusiness will need an agronomic background for the marketing and business aspects of their positions. The Agronomic Business and Marketing option provides technically-educated business people to support the marketing of cropping system inputs. Students enroll in soil science, soil fertility, crop and forage production, several pest management courses, and courses in areas of special interest. Courses in accounting, agribusiness management, agri-sales and marketing, and farm management are also included.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates interested in crop oriented positions typically are employed in the seed industry, agrochemical companies, and consulting and farm service companies. Soils oriented students are in demand by fertilizer, agrochemical and soil testing or service industries. Projections are for steady to increased demand for individuals with this background.

Summer Employment and Summer Internships

Students majoring in Agronomic Business and Marketing are encouraged to spend their summers working with a business or industry that markets or services agronomic products. The experience gained from summer employment will help students identify areas of interest, and will make classes more relevant and valuable.

A formal internship program is available for students who desire to earn credit while employed during the summer. Prospective employers look very favorably on job applicants who have completed a formal internship. Internship opportunities exist across Indiana and the country.
