Soil & Crop Science

In today's complex and highly scientific world, the need for individuals who are educated in basic sciences dealing with soils and crops is becoming more pronounced.

The Soil and Crop Science option provides an education in the basic sciences, while preparing students to apply this knowledge in many technical phases of plant, soil, and environmental management. Depending on their specific career goals and interests, students can emphasize either plant science or soil science. Students are especially qualified for graduate study in soil fertility and plant nutrition, soil chemistry, soil physics, soil microbiology, environmental science, soil mineralogy and genesis, crop physiology and ecology, biotechnology and plant genetics, and plant breeding.

Employment Opportunities

Opportunities are numerous and encompass a broad range in science, business, and education. The heavy emphasis on science in this option allows graduates maximum flexibility with regard to advancement in industry and to pursue graduate training. Students interested in technical research positions with industry or government agencies frequently select the Soil and Crop Science option.

Summer Employment and Summer Internships

A formal internship program is available for students who desire to earn credit while employed during the summer. Prospective employers look very favorably on job applicants who have completed an internship. Internship opportunities exist across Indiana and the country.
