Pennycress
Pennycress is also often referred to as stinkweed.  This weed is not found in Indiana nearly to the extent that it is further west of us.  Pennycress will bloom with white seed heads early in the spring at the time when wheat is tillering.
Pennycress is a shallow rooted plant that acts as either a winter annual or as a spring annual.
The name pennycress is derived from its penny-sized seed pods that turn bronze as they mature.
The oval-shaped seeds of pennycress are dark brownish to black in color.  If you look closely it appears that someone has left a thumbprint on the seed coat.  If dairy cows are allowed to graze on pennycress, an off flavor and color will be imparted to the milk.  Pennycress pods contain many seeds per pod whereas Field peppergrass contains only 2 seeds per pod.
