final reminder that the 2004 Purdue Agronomy Field Day will be held TUESDAY, September 14 at the Purdue Agronomy Center for Research and Education. Tours will focus on a) genetic technologies for corn insect & weed management, b) crop variety testing and on-farm research, c) grain quality assurance programs, d) yield monitor calibration tips and tricks, and e) auto-steer technologies & high accuracy GPS systems.

Field day registration (free) will begin at 8:00 a.m. The first round of tours will be offered at 8:30 a.m. Check out the tour schedule (www.agry.purdue.edu/FieldDay/tours.html) for specific tour departure times.

A new twist to this year's field day will be the inauguration of the "Kitchen Sink" yield/profit plots. Field day attendees will have the opportunity to evaluate comparisons of corn production practices in side-by-side large plots (12 rows by length of field) and cast their ballots for which plot(s) will be a) the highest yielding and/or b) the most profitable. Prizes will be awarded to the winning guesstimates (yield and profit) after the plots are harvested later in the month and results summarized. The grand prize winners will receive a pair of Purdue football tickets to the Oct. 16 homecoming game between Purdue and Wisconsin. Other prizes include a complimentary registration for a 2005 Crop Diagnostic Training session, a copy of the well-known Purdue Field Crops Integrated Pest Management Manual (IPM-1), a set of 4 Purdue crop management CDs, a copy of the new WeedSoft, Weed Management Decision Support Tool CD, and a combination set of the Purdue Forage Guide (ID-317), Corn/Soybean Field Guide (ID-79), and the CD version of the corn/soybean field guide (CD-ID-79).

More information about the field day, including driving directions, can be found at www.agry.purdue.edu/FieldDay/.
